A Few Of My Favorite Things


Start at Waveland Clock Tower at 8:30 AM

Leave the park at the Peace Garden and proceed south on Marine Dr./LSD.

Turn right (west) on Grace and left on Sheffield and continue past Wrigley Field.

Continue on Sheffield to Schubert Ave. Enjoy the Wiggly Field Dog Park

Continue South to Lincoln Ave., turn left to go South on Lincoln Ave. to Webster. Note the Oz Park Yellow Brick Road. There is a Tin Man statue and a brick that says Kathy Ingrid Joey Gretchen

Turn right on Webster and proceed past Kathy's house at 1113 W. to turn left at Racine. Observe welded steel Giraffe Sculpture by Willian Allen in the the yard at 2138 N. Racine. Turn back and use the alley to get to 2115 N. Clifton where you can admire the Wrought Iron Fence with fish and flowers and a butterfly designed by Architect John Elias, owned by Steve Moravec, a serious cyclist who has probably cycled to Indiana and back before 8:30AM. The fence was inspired by his wife, Chandra Greer.

Proceed to Armitage and turn right, then left on Racine and left on Clybourn. See the bicycle shaped bicycle rack at the NE corner of Clybourn and Kenmore and turn left into Kenmore, then right on Poe. Follow it around& go left on Maud, Right on Sheffield. Next left on Willow, next right on Bissell, cross through parking lot and turn left on Clybourn. Follow Clybourn to the T intersection.

Left on Division St. and right on Wells past Walter Payton School. Look upstairs at the Cow. Turn left on Ohio, passing Rainforest Cafe, Rock 'n Roll McDonalds, and other tourist attractions. Turn right on McClurg, left on Illinois and ride to Navy Pier. If it's not crowded, we'll ride east on the south side of the pier & return on the no side. If it's crowded, we'll ride north of the building to the end and come back the same way, or just take a look and ride on.

Leave the pier on Grand and proceed west to Columbus Drive. where you turn left and cross the Chicago River and proceed to Randolph. Right on Randolph to Cultural Center. Go inside and see the mosaic ceiling and many other architectural wonders. Come back another time to enjoy their free lunchtime programs. Proceed west on Randolph to Clark where City Hall and the State of Illinois Building face each other. In front of the State of Illinois building is Jean duBuffet's Monument du DeBout. Turn left on Clark St. and note "The Picasso" on Daley Plaza. Across the street is a Miro statue "Chicago" and continuing south on Clark you'll pass the Mark Chagall "Four Seasons" mosaic on your left and barely visible east of the Post Office is the Alexander Calder statue.

Turn left on Jackson and cross State St. (that great st.) and continue to Wabash.

Turn right on Wabash and continue to Congress and turn right and stop at the J. Ira & Nikki Harris Family Hostel at 24 E. Congress. Park your bikes inside and take a tour or use the facilities or whatever. Come back some other time and volunteer as a concierge, a guide or a program presenter.

Go east on Congress, right on Columbus Dr. to Roosevelt. Turn right and left on Indiana. Go past Mayor Daley's house. See the policeman parked outside. Turn left on 18th St., pass the Vietnam Veterans Art Museum and the Prairie Avenue Historic District including Glessner House and Clarke House. Turn right on Prairie and cut across the sidewalk to continue south to Cermak. Turn left on Cermak. Turn right on South Martin Luther King Drive. Turn left into McCormick Place entrance. Note the Bike Racks at the west side of the building for your future use. We will carry our bikes up the stairs to the "bikes allowed" entrance or use the elevator to get there. Tom Mobley, General Manager of McCormick Place (and a CCC member) will guide us through. You can do this without his guidance in the future.

When we reach the other side, we will proceed to the Museum Campus. Ride out to the Planetarium and note the little beach to the south of it. As you return to the Campus, go in front of the Aquarium so you can enjoy the terraced ramp. Leave the Museum Campus on Roosevelt Road and go west to the Maxwell St. market on Canal St. Continue west on Roosevelt to Morgan. Turn right on Morgan and left on Taylor St. Enjoy Italian Ices at Mario's or Carm's. Continue to Racine and turn north to 120 N. to see another cow in the CTA building. Go east to Halsted north to Wellington. Take that east to the Park. Turn left and follow path to the Waveland Clock Tower.
